PRESENTS Nothing will impact a child's life like seeing first hand how drugs have taken my once prosperous life and lift me basically an invalid. Let's not short change our young people by thinking ,"these are my kids, they don't do drugs, they don't need to see this." Well, young people want to hear about stories like this, they want to make an informed decision on life issues. But. as long as we have to deal with denial attitude in parents and educators we will not be able to make a dent in the drug problem and we can expect more and more casualties. Education is a major deterrent in drug abuse, once we educate our young about the deeper issues involved in drug abuse the sorces will dry up. My presentation follows this outline: The first 3/4 of the presentation I take the students through my youth and young adult life in slides, so they get a glimpse of me and see, yes, all thing were normal in my childhood. Then I ask them to look closely at the interruption drugs caused in my life. Second, I tell how the drug overdose and stroke effected me and my family. Third, I encourage them to decide for their future and help their friends make positive choices. I close with We can make choices, but me or you can't choose the consequences of our choices. And that the choices you young people make today are going to be the reality you will have to live with tomorrow. Your future starts today, right now. What are you going to do with it? Waste it like I did? or plan and build for it. The choice is yours. We need to impress the minds of our youth. I'm not going to try to fool myself or you into thinking that when they see and hear me it's going to change their lives immediately and they are going to stop doing like doing drugs or other negative things that are going to shape their futures for the bad. But now, after seeing me live or on video, every time they are in a situation where street drugs are involved their minds are going to reflect on what they heard and saw, and this unforgettable presentation will be part of their memories recall. Such a little investment in a child's future! What is a child's future worth$100 or $5,000,000. I can't tell you that. But I can tell you that you may be saving us millions of dollars in social support and incarceration cost by helping plant a seed, a seed that may very well spring up into to producing a social giant or a giant of a parent. These minds are our future and the future of our offspring. We as adults need to take stock in these young minds, nurture them, encourage them. It is our opportunity to help produce some value producers. I encourage you to help me plant that seed. I can't say for certain that I will reach every one of the young minds in your group, but if I can just turn one or two from a life of crime and drug abuse into one of well doing and prosperity, I will stop looking at my life as a waist. Oh, how I wish some one would have made an investment in me! I feel it is very important that every young person have an opportunity to learn from my experience whether through a live presentation or through reading about it so I've included chapter seven of my book in it entirety. Feel free to print it out and have to have your students read through it!
